New Zealand Cricket on Monday announced a major change in their squad for the ODI series against India & Pakistan. It has named all-rounder Doug Bracewell as a replacement for injured Matt Henry in New Zealand Squad for Pakistan & India ODI series.
Mat Henry was ruled out of the New Zealand tour of Pakistan & India due to an abdominal strain that they sustained on the final day of the second Test in Karachi. The injury will keep Henry out of action for at least two to four weeks which has paved way for Bracewell in New Zealand’s ODI & t20I Squad. Bracewell who has featured in 68 International fixtures & most recently in New Zealand’s home ODI series against the Netherlands in April 2021 has 118 wickets & an ODI half-century in his kitty. Though he is a seamer he also made useful contributions with the bat in hand.
In Domestic Cricket also he has proved his prowess with both bat & ball by playing for the Central Stags squad. He has started the domestic season as one of the leading wicket-takers in the Plunket Shield & made useful contributions with the willow in hand for Stags in the Super Smash tournament.
Gary Stead is excited to see Dough Bracewell play in the ODI series
Head coach Gary Stead has confirmed that Bracewell would join the New Zealand squad in Karachi on Wednesday & is a natural replacement for Henry in the ODI squad.
“Dough is a stand-out bowler with a plethora of experience in his kitty. We feel that his extraordinary skills complement the bowling mix they have in the squads for Pakistan & India tours. His experience across all formats at the International level is an advantage for us & his experience of playing in the sub-continent will help us in this tour to a great extent,” Stead said in his statement.
He had also expressed sympathy for Henry who sustained an injury on the final day of the second Test. He said that he has been one of the front-line bowlers in their ODI squad & it’s heartbreaking that he couldn’t feature in the ODI series in the sub-continents due to an unfortunate injury. He further said that with a crucial home series lined up it’s important for Matt Henry to recover on time.
The ODI series against Pakistan will begin today in Karachi with the final ODI being slated for January 13. On the other hand, the ODI series against India will kickstart on Wednesday, January 18 in Hyderabad with the final ODI slated to be played on February 1. Recently New Zealand locked horns with Pakistan in Test Series which ended in a draw.
