Emerging Indian cricketers Prithvi Shaw and Sarfaraz Khan have been selected in the West Zone squad for the upcoming Deodhar Trophy, set to begin on July 24.
The renowned domestic competition, whose most recent edition took place during the 2014–15 season, is now back in the zonal format. Due to the serious impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the domestic cricket calendar in India, the 50-over tournament was postponed for the following seasons.
Prithvi Shaw, who is known for his fiery batting style, had a poor season in the just-completed IPL 2023. He was only managed to score 106 runs in eight innings.
Although the gifted opener had just one appearance in the present Duleep Trophy, he proved off his form and grit by scoring an amazing 51 runs.
Shaw’s inclusion in the Deodhar Trophy might be in doubt as following the Duleep Trophy, he will likely begin a county spell with Northamptonshire.
Sarfaraz Khan is overwhelmed to represent West Zone in Deodhar Trophy
Sarfaraz Khan is pleased to be given the chance to represent the West Zone after being left out of India’s squad for the Windies tour despite his outstanding performance in his previous domestic tournament.
On the other hand, Priyank Panchal, who has been named captain, will be leading the West Zone team. The team includes both experienced veterans and young players.
Prominent choices are all-arounder Shivam Dube, pacers Tushar Deshpande and Rajvardhan Hangargekar, who were crucial to the Chennai Super Kings’ successful IPL season.
Dynamic batsman Rahul Tripathi and bowler Chetan Sakariya have joined the West Zone team. The range of skills available for selection can be seen by the latter’s selection on the standby list with Tushar Deshpande.
Cricket fans are really excited about the West Zone squad’s selection and can’t wait to see the engaging matches that will take place in the Deodhar Trophy. Young players might show their abilities and build a claim for future higher honors on the tournament stage.
