The West Indies Women’s Cricket team is set to enjoy enormous benefits as the Cricket West Indies (CWI) has introduced and approved a new proposal to mark equality in Men’s and Women’s Cricket. West Indies Women will now have the perks of traveling in Business Class for long haul International flights for overseas tours and competition.
West Indies Women’s team will fly in Business Class as well as stay in Single Rooms for International games. This travel policy is identical to that enjoyed by the Men’s Cricket Team. The decisions were made and passed in CWI’s first meeting of the Directors under its newly appointed Chief Kishore Shallow. Kishore was earlier appointed to the top post in March 2023.
Apart from passing the historic decisions, CWI has also introduced a new committee namely the Women’s Cricket Transformational Committee. This committee will strongly work to ensure achieving equality for Women’s Players. This will strengthen and develop Women’s Cricket across the nation.
The CWI committee will now make various decisions including:
- Strategies to promote the growth and participation of Women’s cricket.
- Proposing Cricket competitions, events, and forums to foster competitive cricket across the nation.
- Ensuring the welfare of Women cricketers and achieving equality in pay.
Addressing the media, CWI President Kishore Shallow stated that this a historic decision that is passed under his tenure, and all the cricketing fraternity welcomes it wholeheartedly. Furthermore, Shallow stated that the scope of Women’s Cricket is enlarging with enormous participation and response throughout the nation.
CEO of the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) was delighted after the announcement of CWI.
