Cricket News India – The BCCI has announced a new deal with the popular sports brand Adidas as the new kit sponsor for the Indian National Cricket team. Adidas will play an eminent role in sponsoring the Indian kits ahead of the crucial World Test Championship Final against Australia and the ODI World Cup 2023 that will be hosted by India.
BCCI Secretary Jay Shah took to Twitter and announced the association with the world’s leading sports brand. Jay Shah quoted, “I’m pleased to announce @BCCI’s partnership with @adidas as the kit sponsor. We are committed to growing the game of cricket and couldn’t be more excited to partner with one of the world’s leading sportswear brands. Welcome aboard, @adidas.”
Adidas will take over ‘killer jeans’ as Indian team kit sponsor
The BCCI is yet to reveal the details of the deal but it is certainly expected to be a long-term deal. Previously, the American-based world’s finest sporting brand Nike had sponsored Team India’s kit for a brief period of time. Post that, MPL and Killer Jeans were awarded the contract and it will now be Adidas that will shine bright on the Indian jerseys.
MPL had taken over the kit sponsorship from Nike and their contract was valid till the end of 2023. However, the management of MPL was agonized over the terms of the deal as they had to pay Rs. 65 Lakhs per match and a Rs. 9 crores royalty to the BCCI for a three-year deal.
The killer took over from MPL on a five-month contract. It was unarguably a win-win situation for the clothing brand as it got the brand being promoted by the greatest Indian cricketers including Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja. Killer’s contract now comes to an end after the Adidas takeover.
Adidas will now play a pivotal role in sponsoring India’s latest kit. The sports brand will truly brand its logo on the front and it will be amazing to see the Indian cricketers donning Adidas jerseys. Previously, Adidas has also sponsored the England national cricket team for their kit.
