England has announced their squad for the upcoming one-off Test against Ireland & there comes good & bad news for England fans. Starting with the bad news, England’s profound pacer Jofra Archer has been ruled out of the rest of the summer due to the recurrence of a stress fracture to his right hand. His injury recurred while playing for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023. As a result, he returned back to England midway from the cash-rich league. Scans revealed that there is a recurrence of a stress fracture to Archer’s right elbow & he will be under the observation of Sussex & England’s medical teams who will manage his injury.
“It has been a frustrating and upsetting period for Jofra Archer,” ECB Managing Director for England Men’s Cricket, Rob Key, said. “He was making good progress until a recurrence of the elbow injury, which kept him out for an extended period previously. We wish him the best of luck with his recovery. I’m sure we will see Jofra back to his best and winning games for England, whatever the format. Hopefully, sooner rather than later.
But with bad news, there comes good news. And here the good news is that Jonny Bairstow who was out of action due to a broken left leg has recovered & will return in the one-off Test against Ireland. As per the reports, Bairstow’s broken leg & dislocated ankle has recovered completely & since August this will be the first time when Bairstow will play a fixture. He will come in place of Ben Foakes.
“It was a seriously tough decision to leave Ben Foakes out of the squad. He has been excellent for England in the last year, but Jonny Bairstow is one of the best players in the world whose performances last summer epitomized what we are about,” Key noted.
Chris Woakes returns to England Squad for the Ireland Test match
On the other hand, England’s prolific pacer Chris Woakes will make a comeback to the national team for the first time since March 2022. If selected in Playing XI it will be Woakes’s first Test appearance on home soil since August 2020. England’s prolific pacer Mark Wook who took a break from England’s tour of New Zealand will return to the National setup with this much-anticipated series. Ben Stokes will lead the 15-member contingent while ECB named Ollie Pope as his deputy with immediate effect.
England’s Test Squad:
