With the Schedule of World Cup 2023 unveiled the time is now for the all-famous Asia Cup 2023 Schedule. As per the reports, the schedule for the marquee event will be unveiled most likely this week. The ACC is in talks with PCB & SLC to zero down the venues. Most likely Lahore & Dambulla will host fixtures in Sri Lanka. Earlier, Colombo was the preferred venue for the marquee event but due to the monsoon, the venue has been changed. However, a final decision on the venues will be made by this week.
The highly anticipated India vs Pakistan game will also take place in Dambulla. But a final decision is awaited on the same. Before the Sri Lanka leg of the tournament, there will be a 2-3 day gap. India will begin their campaign against co-host Sri Lanka likely on September 6.
Asia Cup Schedule: No changes in Asia Cup 2023 Hybrid Model
Pakistan’s Incoming Chairman Zaka Ashraf has raised issues with ACC’s hybrid model which was proposed by PCB’s outgoing chief Najam Sethi.
“The first point is that I had rejected the hybrid model in the past itself – because I do not agree with it. The board of the Asian Cricket Council had decided that it should be held in Pakistan, then we should host it,” Ashraf said during a press conference last month.
However, ACC has rejected any changes in plans & have decided to go ahead with the initially proposed model. An ACC Official said clearly that PCB’s stance can change with every new Chairman but they cannot work on the whims of one person. Several things such as broadcasters, logistics, are involved in the scheduling process & it can’t change at any moment.
