After recording a humiliating defeat against Australia in the Lord’s Test on July 2, England named a competent 15-member squad for Ashes 2023 third Test beginning on July 6. The announced squad will feature Ollie Pope who sustained a shoulder injury yet batted in both the innings of the second Test.
However, Pope will undergo scans & might get ruled out of the third Test if the results are not good. If Pope misses the third Test then England might name Dan Lawrence in the playing XI who can replace Pope. Meanwhile, Moeen Ali who was excluded from the Playing XI of the second Test due to an injury will return for the third Test. Rehan Ahmed who was included for the second Test has been dropped from the third Test with Moeen back into the Squad. England have named Chris Woakes & Mark Wood into the squad who will be England’s seam bowling options apart from their four frontline seamers who played in the Lord’s Test.
England will aim the return while Australia will aim to win the Ashes 2023
England has received a massive setback in the Ashes 2023 after losing the opening Test at Edgbaston as well as the second Test at Lord’s. Both the matches were closely fought contests with Australia registering a win on the final day of both the Tests. While Cummins’s heroics helped Australia register a glorious win in the first Test it was the bowlers’ hard work that helped England to win the second Test & take a 2-0 lead. Australia is now just one win behind in clinching the Ashes series. A victory in the third Test will help them to declare themselves as the winner of the entire Ashes 2023 series. On the other hand, England will aim at coming back stronger & winning the rest of the Tests.
England squad for the third Ashes Test:
Ben Stokes (captain), Moeen Ali, James Anderson, Jonny Bairstow, Stuart Broad, Harry Brook, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Dan Lawrence, Ollie Pope, Ollie Robinson, Joe Root, Josh Tongue, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood
