Former Indian Captain and an outstanding player Sunil Gavaskar feels that Ms. Dhoni won’t be a part of India’s T20 World Cup squad. Taking a dig on Dhoni’s performance Gavaskar said that Team India has silently moved on from Dhoni and his presence in the squad will be not more than a showpiece as he has not played with the team since the Semi-finals of ICC World Cup 2019 against New-Zealand.
The world Cup is going to be held in Australia later this year and Gavaskar believes that team India is not affected with the presence of Dhoni and the team has moved on. According to him Dhoni will not be more than a showpiece if he becomes the part of the tournament.
He said, “I would definitely like to see Dhoni in India’s World Cup squad but it’s highly unlikely that it is going to happen, the team has moved on from Dhoni. Since past few months Dhoni didn’t made any big announcements in terms of performance and so he thinks that he would silently retire from the game”.
Dhoni has distanced himself from cricket since the defeat of team India against New-Zealand in ICC World Cup 2019 semi-finals. As a result selectors have showed their faith in young stumper Rishabh Pant. The glorious rise and progress of Rahul as a consistent batsman cum keeper has made him first priority for white-ball cricket format.
Looking at this latest progressions former India opener Virender Sehwag said that, “Dhoni will face difficulty to fit the current Indian Squad and so more likely is that he won’t be picked up for the tournament”.
There are very less chances for Dhoni to play in ICC T20 World Cup. Sehwag said, “Where will he fit in? With Rishabh Pant and Rahul performing exceptionally well, I think there is no reason why we should not stick with them”, quoted Sehwag in an interview.
Though young talents are performing exceptionally well but Tashan of Mahi will always be missed in the Indian Cricket team!
