Ace Rajasthan Royals batsman Jos Buttler has been fined 10% of his match fees for breaching an Indian Premier League (IPL) Code of Conduct in the franchise’s pool stage fixture against Kolkata Knight Riders last evening at Eden Gardens. The exact reason for Buttler’s breach has not been specified but it is believed that Jos was charged for showing dissent after getting run out in the second over of the innings.
As per the match referee’s decision, Buttler’s incident is deemed to be a Level 1 offense under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct. The article deals with the player’s behavior that brings the game into disrepute. Notably, Buttler also admitted to the Level 1 offense as the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.
The unfortunate incident occurred during the second over of Rajasthan’s run-chase against Kolkata. Buttler was facing Harshit Rana’s fourth ball of the over where he pushed the ball on the backfoot to the covers. Non-striker batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal immediately rushed to the striker’s end for a quick single run.
Jos Buttler sacrificed his wicket for saving Yashasvi Jaiswal
Jos Buttler seemed uncomfortable on the back foot and was not in a state to complete the run. He indicated his hand and asked Jaiswal to return but he saw Yashasvi already past the halfway mark. Unfortunate Buttler then tried to run to the non-striker’s end but had to sacrifice his wicket as expected. Caribbean all-rounder Andre Russell picked up the ball and made no mistake in breaking the wickets as Buttler was dismissed for a duck.
However, Yashasvi Jaiswal did not let it impact his outstanding batting performance. The 21-year-old went on to script history as he smashed the fastest 50 by any IPL in the history of IPL. Jaiswal achieved the milestone in only 13 balls that assisted Rajasthan to hunt KKR’s 150-run target in only 13.1 overs. With this victory, Rajasthan pipped Mumbai Indians and claimed the third position in the standings. Rajasthan Royals will next face Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 14 which is the first fixture of a Sunday double-header.
