Rohit Sharma & Co has qualified for the WTC 2023 Final even though the results of the ongoing fourth Test are still awaited. This is because the Black Caps have cleared the roads for India after defeating Sri Lanka in the first Test & taking a 1-0 lead. The equation for the Indian team was quite simple if they had to qualify for the WTC final for the second time in a row then they will have to win the series either by 3-0 or 3-1. And for Sri Lanka, they have to win the ongoing two-match Test series by 2-0 to qualify for the marquee event. If Sri Lanka fails to clinch the series by 2-0 then it would automatically result in India qualifying for the WTC 2023 Final. And just as expected Sri Lanka failed to fulfill the criteria as they suffered two wickets loss at the hands of Black Caps, handing India a berth in the final.
Sri Lanka put their every blood to get the game in their favor but all their efforts went in vain as Williamson stayed unbeaten & took New Zealand over the line on the final ball of the innings. He scored a magnificent 121 runs off 194 balls to take New Zealand over the line in the last ball of the fixture taking a 1-0 lead in the series & providing a lifeline to the Indian continent who are facing Australia in the ongoing fourth Test of the BGT Test Series 2023.
WTC 2023 Final: India is eyeing a draw to clinch BGT 2023 by 2-1 Score
Meanwhile, the Indian team is trying their best to draw the fourth Test & win the BGT 2023 with 2-1 scores. The fourth Test is no less than a nerve-bitting thriller as India is trying to either win or draw the match so that they can win the series by 3-1 or 2-1 scores. While Australia is aiming to win the match anyhow & draw the series by a 2-2 score. Now which teams wish will prevail is what will be known in a few hours. Notably, this is the only game of the four-match Test Series that has reached the fifth day. However, Sri Lanka’s loss came as a respite for India who is no longer in a must-win situation to qualify for the WTC 2023 final.
