IND vs WI 1st Test: West Indies players were wearing the ‘Black Lives Matter Logo’ on their Jersey during the first Test which will begin on Wednesday in Dominica. The West Indies Captain, Kraigg Brathwaite walked out for the toss with the logo printed on his left collar. The logo is formally approved by the ICC & West Indies will wear the T-shirts imprinted with the logo in both the Tests.
For the unversed, West Indies has supported Black Live Matter since the death of American George Floyd. They first wore the ‘Black Lives Matter’ logo in their Test series against England in 2020. Back in 2020, West Indies Captain talked about his stand on racism & said that it was a pivotal moment for the team to take a stand against racism.
“This is a pivotal moment in history for sports, for the game of cricket, and for the West Indies cricket team”, Holder said.
“We did not take our decision lightly. “We know what it is for people to make judgments because of the color of our skin, so we know what it feels like, this goes beyond the boundary.
“There must be equality and there must be unity. Until we get that as people, we cannot stop.
“We have to find some way to have equal rights and people must not be viewed differently because of the color of their skin or ethnic background”, he added.
IND vs WI 1st Test: Openers Kraigg Brathwaite & Tagenarine Chanderpaul provided Windies a stable star
Talking about the IND vs WI 1st Test, WI openers Kraigg Brathwaite, and Tagenarine Chanderpaul have provided a stable start to the home side. West Indies skipper Kraigg Brathwaite won the toss and opted to bat first. However, it was R Ashwin who had the upper hand as he took fifer to dismantle Windies batting order. As a result, West Indies was restricted to a meager 150 runs total in the first innings.
Later during the second innings, Rohit & Jaiswal provided a blistering start to India’s innings. They ensured that India ends Day 1 without any loss of wickets. By the end of Day 1 India’s total read 80-0 without any loss of wickets.
