Indian Cricketers Harbhajan Singh & Yuvraj Singh have received criticism on social media for supporting former Pakistan Captain, Shahid Afridi’s foundation in the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic.
The two countries are rivals, the relation between the two countries is on bitter terms and due to internal tensions, the step of the Indian cricketers to support Pakistan’s fight against the coronavirus Pandemic has touched the raw nerve in India. Shahid Afridi earlier has appealed to the people to raise funds to support those who are drastically affected by the Coronavirus Pandemic in Pakistan & has received a good response from the leading cricketers across the globe. Harbhajan also appealed people to make a monetary contribution in Pakistan’s Campaign against the fight in COVID-19 and called the cricketers of both the countries to make similar appeals.
“These are testing times, it’s time to take care of each other & help each other to combat this deadly virus together”, Yuvraj wrote on Twitter in a wake of generating funds for the fight against COVID-19 pandemic. While Afridi thanked the two Indian cricketers for their support to rival country but this didn’t go well with the Indian Twitter users who were not pleased with Indian cricketer’s gesture.
“Do you have any sense?” wrote a user on Twitter. “Lost respect” for Harbhajan Singh added another. “Sorry, guys you lost it”. These were the intense angry reactions of some Indian Twitter users against Harbhajan Singh & Yuvraj Singh for extending support to their neighboring country.
India & Pakistan have not played any bilateral cricket tournament since the year 2012-2013. World Cup- Winning batsman Yuvraj Singh who retired last year from the Indian cricket has also raised money to fight against Coronavirus Pandemic through his ‘YouWeCan’ foundation.
India has been under a 21-days-lockdown since March 24, India has almost more than 1,600 confirmed Coronavirus cases and 38 death reported till Wednesday.
The world is going through tough times and during such a bad phase we should support each other instead of keeping rivalry in our heart for Pakistan we should join hands in the fight against Coronavirus Pandemic.
