Former India Cricketer Gautam Gambhir has never shied from giving his opinions in front of the public & media. Recently he spoke about the cricketers who endorse pan masala products via surrogate advertising. Notably, during the recently concluded IPL 2023, many former Cricketers like Chris Gayle, Snul Gavaskar, Virender Sehwag & many others got involved in the ads for pan masala products.
Giving his opinion on the same, Gambhir came forward to slam ex-cricketers who advertised such products. Gambhir said that he is disgusting & disappointing & even suggested that the fans should choose their role models appropriately.
“I never thought in my life a cricketer would do a pan masala ad. It’s disgusting and disappointing. That is why I say, choose your role models carefully. What example are you setting?” Gautam Gambhir told News18.

Gautam Gambhir also stated that millions of kids watch cricketers & consider them as their role models. If they endorse such products than it will convey the wrong message to the kids. He also highlighted the fact that there are many ways of making money other than endorsing harmful products.
“One gets recognized not by their name, but by the work they do. Crores of kids are watching you. Money is not so important that you will end up doing a pan masala ad. There are so many other ways to make money. You should have the courage to let go of a big pay cheque rather than do such things,” Gambhir said.
Gambhir also said that he too got an offer to endorse a pan masala advertisement after he left the captaincy of Delhi Capitals in 2018. But he denied teh offer as it was against his principles. He said that if money was what he wanted then he could have accepted that offer. But he denied it as it was against his principles. He highlighted the fact that Sachin Tendulkar was also offered 20-30 lakhs to act in pan masala ads but he too denied it because he had once promised his father that he would never engage in such things which is the reason he is considered as a role model.
