The Cricket Association of Bengal(CAB) had made it mandatory to conduct eye tests for its senior & U-23 teams once camp resumes cricket post-COVID-19 lockdown.
In a first among domestic teams in India, CAB will be conducting mandatory eye tests for its senior & U-23 teams once camp resumes cricket post-COVID-19 lockdown. This was decided during the discussion between the CAB administration & Bengal coaching unit, which felt that often the eyesight of the cricketers gets affected after the cricketers come back from a long leave.
“Eyesight & reflex are the two important elements in cricket that’s why the head coach of Bengal Cricket, Arun Lal suggested that the eye test should be made mandatory. So that we can address the eyesight issues if any”, CAB President Avishek Dalmiya told leading media portal.
Former India Cricketer & Bengal Captain Deep Dasgupta also said that it’s a welcome move as “cricket is also a game of hand-eye coordination”.
“When you are coming back on the field you would like to just check the eyesight. Nothing wrong in it. Often it’s not a 20/20 vision, it could well be 19/20 without your knowledge. There could be a case of depth perception in the case of cylindrical power. You could have difficulty in gauging the color of the ball or have depth perception,” Dasgupta told a media portal.
Dasgupta will be approached for a wicket-keeper’s clinic for the upcoming wicket keepers. There would be a spinners camp by a spin specialist for at least 7-10 days once the current “situation eases”, the CAB stated in the media release.
The Bengal selectors will first announce a 30 member committee before the CAB gives a green signal for the camp post-COVID-19 lockdown.
