Delhi Capitals which is a franchise in IPL has announced Anrich Nortje as the replacement for Chris Woakes for the upcoming edition of the IPL tournament.
Nortje was earlier the part of Kolkata Franchise in 12th edition of the IPL but his shoulder injury reduced his chances of being a part of the IPL. “I am excited to join the Delhi Capitals, a team that was the talk of the tournament last season. With its exciting mix of experienced and young players and a stellar coaching line up, there is no doubt this is going to be a massive learning experience for me. I am grateful to the Delhi Capitals management for giving me this opportunity,” Nortje said in an official release issued by Delhi Capitals.
Anrich Nortje has made his debut in test Cricket in 2019 against India & has fetched a total of 19 wickets from 6 Test Matches, 14 wickets from 7 ODIs & 2 Wickets from 3 T20Is. Nortje was also named as Cricket South Arica’s Newcomer Cricketer of the year for 2020. He will be joining his teammate Kagiso Rabada in Delhi Capitals franchise for the upcoming IPL league. DC will be led by Shreyas Iyer this year & ricky Ponting is the head coach of the team.
Earlier, Woakes has left the upcoming IPL season to keep himself fit & fine for the upcoming International Summer series. In December 2019, Woakes was acquired by Delhi Capitals for base price of 1.5 crore in the player’s auction.
The IPL 2020 will be held in UAE from September 19 to November 10 & the tournament will be played for 53 days. For the first time Finals of the IPL will be played on a weekday i.e. Tuesday. The upcoming edition of IPL will be played across the three venues i.e. Dubai, Abu Dhabi & Sharjah in UAE.
