Rovman Powell who has led Jamaica Tallawahs to the glorious CPL title in 2022 has been traded to Barbados Royals ahead of CPL 2023. Powell who was an integral part of the Tallawahs franchise could potentially lead his new franchise in this season of CPL. As a part of the trade prolific legspinner Hayden Walsh Jr will join the Tallwahs from Royals. Walsh Jr has been named the Player of the Tournament in 2019 which was his first year with the Barbados Franchise. After that Walsh had a stint as a net bowler with Royals franchise named Rajasthan Royals.
“It is with a heavy heart that my time with the Tallawahs has come to an end,” Powell posted on Instagram. “I have made life-long friends and memories I will never forget. Not least winning two CPL titles for my home franchise, one of those as CAPTAIN, which I will always cherish.
“I’m looking forward to joining the Royals and beginning a new chapter of my CPL career. I would like to thank all the players and coaches who have been part of my Tallawahs journey these last few years. Most of all, I want to thank the Jamaican fans, for your support.”
Rovman Powell’s trade came after key players fallout with the franchise
Powell’s exit came after a fallout between Chris Gayle & Andre Russell that resulted in the duo ending their stint with the franchise. Gayle’s association with Royals ended in 2020 after having a bitter fallout with Ramnaresh Sarwan who was serving as the assistant coach of Tallawahs. Gayle has made a big statement while parting his ways with the franchise. He said that he always wanted to end his career as the uniform of Jamaica which is his home team but now the dreams seem to be over & Gayle blamed Sarwan for all the mess. He went on to call Sarwan a snake, vindictive & despicable. On the other hand, Russell has moved from Tallawahs to Knight Riders ahead of CPL 2022 just two seasons after he had called his stint with the franchise the weirdest one.
