Chetan Sharma, the ex-chief selector of the indian Cricket team has made a comeback as the Chairman of selectors for the North Zone team. Chetan who had resigned from his position due to a sting operation by a New Channel has chaired the meeting of the North Zone Selection Committee. He had represented Haryana & presided over the meeting headed by Anirudh Chaudhry, the former treasurer of BCCI.
The North Zone Selection Meeting commenced on Monday at Gurgaon Crickey Ground on Thursday 15th June. During the meeting, Mandeep Singh was selected as the Captain of the North Zone team for the upcoming Duleep Trophy, scheduled to be held in Bangalore from June 28 to July 16. Further, the panel has also selected a 15-member competent squad with eight stand-by players. Additionally, the panel revealed the coach & support staff for the Zonal side. The appointment of Chetan Sharma as Chairman of Selectors marks the return of Chetan Sharma to the selection arena. For the unversed, Chetan has served as the Chairman of the National selection committee for three years. However, following a controversial sting operation by Zee News Chetan had to resign from his post.
Since then the Indian team has been without a Chairman of Selectors. In an emergency, Sib Sundar Das from Odisha has been appointed as the Interim Chief Selector of the Indian team, with the BCCI yet to find a replacement for Chetan Sharma in the North Zone. The Officials of North Zone confirmed Chetan heading a meeting but refused to comment on it stating that the convenor Chaudhary is the right person to speak to the media. But unfortunately, Chaudhry couldn’t be reached.
