BCB announces squad for ACC Men’s Emerging Asia Cup 2023 which will be played in Sri Lanka in July. The 15-Member Bangladesh A squad will see the comeback of Soumya Sarkar who has been excluded from the Bangladesh Senior team. He last played for Bangladesh in November 2022 in their series against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2022. But due to his consistently poor form in all formats of cricket, he has been dropped from his club team, Mohammedan Sporting Club, in the Dhaka Premier League in BPL 2022.
Sarkar received a recall for the National squad for ACC Men’s Emerging Asia Cup 2023
The ACC Men’s Emerging Asia Cup will now provide an opportunity for Sarkar to rebuild his career. With 16 Tests, 61 ODIs, and 72 T20Is under his belt, Sarkar is the most experienced player in the squad. Meanwhile, the reins of Captaincy have been handed to Saif Hasan. The prolific batter who has played six Tests & two T20Is for Bangladesh will now lead their ‘A-Team. In 105 fixtures that Saif played, he has managed to amass 3812 runs at an average of 38.89.
There came a call-up for swashbuckling opener, Zakir Hasan who was a part of the Bangladesh squad and had registered their biggest win in terms of runs in the 21st Century against Afghanistan earlier in June. Hasan scored a free-flowing 71 runs off 95 balls in the second innings of the mentioned Test. Further senior players such as Mohammad Naim, Mahedi Hasan, Parvez Hossain Emon, and Mrittunjoy Chowdhury, who have a plethora of experience in the International arena have been included in the squad. While the spin department will be handled by Mahedi & uncapped player Rakibul Hasan. Bangladesh are placed in Group B alongside Afghanistan A, Oman, and UAE.
