Afghanistan will tour Bangladesh for a one-off Test, three ODIs & two T20Is in June 2023. But the venues for the BAN vs AFG series are yet to be decided. The series will be played in two phases as Afghanistan will depart for India for the white ball series during Eid Ul Adha after playing the one-off Test against Bangaldesh.
After the conclusion of the India series, they will return to Bangladesh for completing the ODI & T20I leg of the tour. BCB Cricket Operations Chairman Jalal Yunus further said that the venue for the series will be zeroed down in the coming days.
“Since we have rescheduled from earlier, we will finalize in a day or two where the venues will be. It was planned earlier that they would play one of the formats and then head back to India. Afghanistan will return back from India and play the rest of the series,” BCB cricket operations chairman Jalal Yunus was quoted as saying by the Daily Star.
There was a delay in confirming Afghanistan’s white-ball tour of India and since the series will be played during the Eid vacations, the BCB happily accepted Afghanistan’s request.
“They were not supposed to stay during Eid anyway. They were excited about the India series but it wasn’t getting confirmed. Once it was confirmed, Afghanistan requested that they wanted to go and play India after playing one of the formats. We accepted it since it’s vacation time here too,” Jalal had told traveling media at Chelmsford in the UK on Thursday.
Notably, Afghanistan was slated to play two Tests, three T20Is & three ODIs against Bangladesh. But due to the unavailability of the window, one Test was scrapped & only one Test was fixed for the tour.
BAN vs IRE 1st ODI got washed out
Currently, Bangladesh is playing three-match ODI series against Ireland in England. All three fixtures of the series will be played at the County Ground in Chelmsford. This ODI series is crucial for Ireland as if they manage to win it by 3-0, South Africa will be out of contention for direct qualification. The first ODI of the series ended in a no result due to rain. Chosen to bowl first Bangladesh managed to restrict Ireland at 64-2 after 17 overs with Harry Tector (29* off 39) and Andrew Balbirnie (22* off 40) at the crease. At this point, rain played as a spoilsport and resulted in the abandonment of the fixture
