Australia’s opening batsman David Warner has said that Australia’s upcoming tour of England and Scotland may not go ahead due to the ongoing coronavirus Pandemic.
Australia was scheduled to play against Scotland in one-off T20I on June 29 and is scheduled to play with England in three T20Is and three ODIs from July 3. England has already postponed the start of their domestic tournaments to July 1 and the three lion’s series against West Indies set to commence from June has been rescheduled.
“At the moment it’s highly unlikely that we are going to go over there looking at the situation in England”, said Warner. “No doubt we all want crowds no matter where we go and where we play”, said Warner.
“I love playing in England. You have always got someone who always tries and keeps up your potential & for the team, it’s pretty much just me, and that takes a lot of the heat off the other guys”, he added.
UK’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson was tested positive for COVID-19. David Warner said that the COVID-19 still remains a serious problem throughout the world and currently there are more important things than just cricket being played.
“The UK Prime Minister is absolutely fine and back on the feet now, but there is a lot more to this than just sport being played”, David Warner said.
“The biggest challenge is to make sure that we all are doing the right things to flatten this Coronavirus curve and doing our bit in that. We have done a great job till now and all the Australians should be credited for it”, he added.
David Warner was last seen in action during the first ODI of the three-match series against New-Zealand earlier this year. However, just after the first ODI match, the series got postponed due to the COVID-19. The left-handed batsman would be leading the Sunrisers Hyderabad team in the IPL league if the tournament would have not been suspended indefinitely on April 16 due to COVID-19
