The position of Worcestershire’s Chief which was vacant since 2019 has finally found its successor after four long years! Yes, you have read it right! Ashley Giles has been appointed as Worcestershire’s Chief Executive. 16 months after being sacked as England’s managing director after the team’s 4-0 defeat in the Ashes 2021-22 series, Giles is all set to return to the International Cricket arena with this new role.
Giles was linked with County when the advertised for Director of Cricket in 2022. However, he will take up the position from July 3. The chair of Worcestershire Chief has been vacant since 2019, with chair Fanos Hira taking an active role in the running of the club. The club has been having a tough time keeping their key players linked to them who are out of the contract in 2023. The list includes England’s Test debutant Josh Tongue who got a lucrative offer from Lancashire. Tongue hopes that Giles’s appointment indicates their ambition to those who are considering leaving the position. Giles had spent his playing career with Warwickshire & had two stints as a Director of Cricket at Edgbaston. Giles has also indicated his wish to enjoy a successful stint with his new club.

Hira said that the Club’s management is happy to have Giles on board. He also said that Ashley Giles’s unmatched expertise & outstanding track record in cricket administration makes him the perfect choice to lead Worcestershire Club. He further said that the club has full confidence in Giles’s leadership qualities & passion for Cricket. And both qualities would serve as indispensable assets in propelling the club towards laurels of success Off & on the field.
Worcestershire Club has released a statement stating that Giles would provide great support to Worcestershire Coaching teams & would oversee the management of the club as a whole.
