UP W vs GG W: UP Warriorz got off to a winning start as they defeated Gujarat Giants by three wickets in their campaign opening fixture on Sunday. UP Warriorz displayed a sheer game of resilience & determination to outclass Gujarat Giants in their opening clash of the tournament.
The match unfolded with Gujarat Giants batting first & posting an average total of 169 runs on board. Giants began their innings on a decent note as openers Meghana & Sophia put up a 34-run stand for the first wicket. But soon their blooming stand was broken with Sophia getting dismissed in the 4th over followed by Meghana in the 5th over reducing Giants to 38-2 in six overs. But Harleen Deol led their innings from the forefront by scoring 46 runs off 32 balls with seven fours. She stitched a meaningful 44-run stand for the fifth wicket with Ashleigh Gardner. Together the duo did the rebuilding work for Gujarat. After their dismissals, Hemlatha led their innings by playing a brief cameo of 21 runs. She ensured that the Giants end their innings on a decent 169 runs in the allotted 20 overs. For UP Warriorz, Deepti Sharma (2-27) & Sophie Ecclestone (2-25) starred with the ball by returning with two wickets each.

In reply, UP Warriorz got off to a disastrous start as they lost three wickets within the first three overs. Healy (7), Sehrawat (5), and McGrath (0) all went back to the pavilion cheaply reducing Warriorz to 20-3. Then came navgire on the crease who scored 53 runs off 43 balls with five fours & two sixes to keep Warriorz’s scoreboard ticking. But soon their innings took a reverse turn as they lost three wickets within a span of two overs. Wickets kept falling like a pack of cards as Deepti (11), Simran (0), and Devika (4) all went back to the hut cheaply, reducing Warriorz to 105-7. However, Grace Harris on the crease meant things are under control. She scored an unbeaten 59 off 26 balls with seven fours & three sixes. There was no stopping for Harris as she stitched an unbeaten 70 runs stand with tailender Ecclestone to guide UP over the line in the 19th over with three wickets in hand. Sophie Ecclestone contributed by scoring 22 runs off 12 balls. UP ended their innings at 175-7 in 19.5 overs registering a glorious win. For Gujarat, Kim Grath starred with the bowl by returning with figures of 5 for 36.
