The Southern Vipers defeated The Blaze in a thrilling contest at New Road to successfully defend their Charlotte Edwards Cup championship. The Vipers won by seven wickets, led by the outstanding performance of Danni Wyatt.
The match was originally supposed to end on Saturday, but severe rain forced play to be delayed and ultimately canceled. To finish the contest, the teams returned on the reserve day.
The Blaze failed to put together a sizable total after receiving the opportunity to bat first despite a promising start. They struggled to a below-par total of 114 for 8 after 20 overs from their previous score of 53 for 4 in 9.3 overs. Anya Shrubsole, who was eventually voted Player of the Match in her game before retiring, was instrumental in keeping The Blaze from setting a difficult goal by collecting two early wickets.
Charlie Dean’s off-spin crushed The Blaze’s hopes of a late push. Her bowling led to 7 and 14 runs from Sarah Glenn and Nadine de Klerk. The Blaze scored a run-a-ball total of 120 with their score at 95 for 6 in 17 overs. The Blaze’s batting was over after Sophie Munro was bowled for a duck and Mary Taylor took a wicket in the final over.

The Southern Vipers got off to a strong start. A good starting combination between Wyatt and Maia Bouchier added 108 runs in just 11 overs. As they quickly scored 67 runs in the first seven overs, the target seemed to be within reach.
However, Wyatt started her attack and reached a half-century in 27 balls after Bouchier got out for 25. De Klerk eventually caught her lbw for 26, which left the Vipers requiring 26 more runs to win. Ella McCaughan was stumped by Lucy Higham, but Adams ensured sure her team had an easy win by hitting consecutively fours.
