RCB vs RR: A clinical all-round performance by a stupendous Royal Challengers Bangalore side helped them power a significant 7-run victory against the table-toppers Rajasthan Royals this afternoon. With this victory, RCB record their fourth victory of the season and retained their fifth position in the standings.
Winning the toss at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson made a clumsy decision to bowl first. Batting first, Royal Challengers Bangalore posted a stunning 189/9 runs total in their first innings of 20 overs.
Royal Challengers Bangalore was off to a nightmare start after losing skipper Virat Kohli and Shahbaz Ahmed (2) early on in the innings. However, Faf du Plessis (62) and Glenn Maxwell (77) took over the command and powered a scintillating match-winning partnership of 125 runs for the third wicket.
Wickets started to tumble after Rajasthan broke the partnership of du Plessis and Maxwell. As a result, RCB could not surpass the 200-run mark. Dinesh Karthik played a vital 16-run cameo. For Rajasthan Royals, Trent Boult (2/41) starred in the bowling attack alongside Sandeep Sharma (2/49). Ashwin and Chahal chipped in a wicket apiece.
RR lose their top spot after suffering a closely fought 7-run loss
Chasing a challenging total of 190 runs, Rajasthan Royals made a disappointing start to their stint after losing flamboyant batsman Jos Buttler for a duck. Yashaswi Jaiswal (47) and Devdutt Padikkal (52) then came in to the rescue and anchored a solid 99-run stand for the second wicket. Furthermore, skipper Sanju Samson (22) and Dhruv Jurel (34) played aggressive knocks to try and take their side to a victory, but their efforts went in vain as Rajasthan was restricted to 182/6 and lost the match by a mere 7-runs.
For Royal Challengers Bangalore, Harshal Patel led the bowling attack and was absolutely phenomenal in his bowling approach. Patel claimed 3 wickets for 32 runs. Mohammed Siraj and David Willey grabbed a wicket apiece. RCB will take on the Kolkata Knight Riders in their upcoming fixture whereas Rajasthan will battle it out against Chennai Super Kings.
