Winning the toss at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali, Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma made an exemplary decision to bowl first. Batting first, Punjab Kings posted a thumping 214/3 runs total in their first innings of 20 overs. Punjab Kings was off to a decent start as skipper Shikhar Dhawan (30) and Matthew Short (27) put up a vital 49-run stand for the second wicket. Furthermore, Liam Livingstone and Jitesh Sharma took charge and capitalized on the solid start provided by the frontline batting attack.
Livingstone (82) was absolutely thundering in his batting approach and he powered a commanding unbeaten stand of 119 runs for the fourth wicket along with Jitesh Sharma (49) who was also convincing. For Mumbai Indians, Piyush Chawla (2/29) starred in the bowling attack with a stunning bowling display whereas Arshad Khan chipped in a wicket apiece.

Chasing a mammoth target of 216 runs, Mumbai Indians were off to a nightmare start after losing skipper Sharma for a duck. However, Ishan Kishan and Cameron Green (23) then came to the rescue and put up a vital 54-run stand for the second wicket.
Ishan Kishan (75) and Suryakumar Yadav (66) pioneered Mumbai’s run-chase as they powered a splendid match-winning stand of 116 runs for the third wicket. In the end, a couple of explosive cameos from Tilak Varma (26) and Tim David (19) helped Mumbai hunt the target in only 18.5 overs. For Punjab Kings, Nathan Ellis (2/34) led the bowling attack with a fascinating bowling display whereas Rishi Dhawan and Arshdeep Singh chipped in a wicket apiece. Arshdeep was deliberately hammered as he gave away 66 runs in his four overs spell.
