Winning the toss at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma made an unfortunate decision to bowl first. Batting first, Punjab Kings was off to a slow start but then bounced back and posted a thumping total of 214/8 in their first innings of 20 overs.
Punjab Kings were off to a decent start after frontline batsmen Prabhsimran Singh (26) and Abhishek Taide (29) added 47 runs for the second wicket. Furthermore, Sam Curran (55) and Harpreet Singh (41) laid the foundation of Punjab’s splendid first-innings total as they powered a stunning 92-run stand for the fifth wicket. In the end, a solid cameo from Jitesh Sharma (25) helped Punjab to edge past the 200-run mark.
For Mumbai Indians, Piyush Chawla (2/15) starred in the bowling attack with a pivotal spell whereas Cameron Green (2/41) also provided vital support. Arjun Tendulkar, Jofra Archer, and Jason Behendorff chipped in a wicket apiece.

Chasing a mammoth total of 215 runs, Mumbai Indians were off to a nightmare start after losing Ishan Kishan for a solitary run. Skipper Rohit Sharma (44) then came into the rescue alongside Cameron Green as they posted a crucial 76-run stand for the second wicket.
Cameron Green (57) continued to capitalize on his innings and received enormous support at the other end from Suryakumar Yadav. SKY (57) also exploited the Punjab Kings bowlers and the two added a rock-solid partnership of 75 runs for the third wicket.
Just when things seemed to be perfect for Mumbai, Arshdeep Singh struck to disrupt the proceedings and claimed the important wicket of Suryakumar and Tilak Varma as Mumbai Indians fell short of 13-runs and were restricted to 201/6.
For Punjab Kings, Arshdeep Singh was absolutely monumental in his efforts as he claimed 4 wickets for 29 runs. Nathan Ellis and Liam Livingstone chipped in a wicket apiece.
