Winning the toss at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya made an unfortunate decision to bowl first. Batting first, Mumbai Indians powered a scintillating show and put up a massive 218/5 runs total in their first innings of 20 overs. Mumbai Indians were off to a solid start as opening batsmen Ishan Kishan (31) and Rohit Sharma (29) put up a stunning 61-run partnership for the first wicket. Furthermore, Suryakumar Yadav and Vishnu Vinod (30) capitalized on the splendid start as they added another match-winning partnership of 65 runs for the fourth wicket.
Suryakumar Yadav (103)* was absolutely astounding and commanding in his innings as he anchored his maiden IPL century. Backed on his rock-solid efforts, Mumbai easily managed to cross the 200-run mark. For Gujarat Titans, Rashid Khan (4/30) starred in the bowling attack with an absolutely phenomenal bowling performance. Khan was the only bankable bowler for the Titans whereas Mohit Sharma chipped in a wicket apiece.

Chasing a gigantic total of 219 runs, Gujarat Titans were off to a nightmare start as they lost their frontline batsmen Wriddhiman Saha (2), Shubman Gill (6), and skipper Hardik Pandya (4) for single-digit scores. Vijay Shankar (29) tried to stabilize Gujarat’s innings but was trapped by Piyush Chawla.
David Miller (42) and Rahul Tewatia (14) came to the rescue and built a vital stand of 45 runs for the sixth wicket but they also failed in front of a decisive Mumbai bowling attack. Towards the end, Rashid Khan (79) played a thundering and explosive knock with an aim to hunt the target but his efforts went in vain as Gujarat was restricted to 191/8 and lost the match by 27 runs. For Mumbai Indians, Akash Madhwal (3/31) led the bowling attack with a commendable bowling performance and was handsomely supported by Piyush Chawla (2/36) and Kumar Kartikeya Singh (2/37).
