LSG vs RR: Lucknow Super Giants bounce back to winning terms by outclassing table toppers Rajasthan Royals by 10 runs today at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The match unfolded with Rajasthan Royals winning the toss & opting to bowl first.
LSG manages to counter RR’s fiery bowling attack
Batting first LSG could post just 154 runs total on board, thanks to a fiery bowling attack by Rajasthan Royals. KL Rahul & Kyle Mayers provided the team with a flying start by scoring 82 runs for the first wicket in 10.2 overs. They managed to end the powerplay without any loss of wickets but the scoring rate was low. Soon Jason Holder provided RR with a major breakthrough by dismissing KL Rahul for 39 off 32 balls. KL Rahul’s run rate was very low as he could amass just 39 runs after facing 100 balls. Mayers held another end tightly while wickets kept tumbling on the other end.
Ayush Badoni (1) & Deepak Hooda (2) continued their poor form by getting dismissed early. After scoring a few runs, Mayers too was sent packing off Ashwin’s delivery for 51 runs off 42 balls in innings filled with four fours & three sixes, reducing LSG to 104-4 in 13.5 overs. Then came a survival act from Marcus Stoinis (21 off 16) & Nicholas Pooran (29 off 20) who stitched a crucial 45-run stand for the fourth wicket to help LSG post an average 154 runs total on board. For Rajasthan, R Ashwin starred with the ball by returning with figures of 2 for 23.
Middle & lower order couldn’t get going with the willow
In reply, Rajasthan Royals got off to a steady start with openers Jos Buttler & Yashawi Jaiswal scoring 87 run-stand for the first wicket. But soon their powering stand was broken with Stoinis dismissing Jaiswal for 44 off 35 balls with four fours & two sixes. After his dismissal, Sanju Samson came on the field to continue the innings along with Jos Buttler. But right in the 13th over Samson got run out due to a miscommunication with struggling Buttler. However, his sacrifice was of no use as in the very next over i.e. 14th over Buttler was dismissed after amassing 44 runs off 35 balls in innings laced with four fours & one six. RR was reeling at 97-3 in the 14th over. RR’s previous fixture hero Shimron Hetmyer couldn’t carry off his onslaught with the bat & was sent packing for two runs in the 16th over off Avehs Khan’s delivery.
Padikkal along with new batter Riyan Parag tried to do resurrecting for RR but failed miserably. Padikkal scored 26 runs off 21 balls while Riyag stayed unbeaten at 15 runs off 12 balls. In the end, Dhruv Jurel too was sent packing for a duck & RR ended their innings for 144 for 6, suffering a narrow 10-run defeat.
