DC Vs PBKS: The surging Delhi Capitals side ousted Punjab Kings by 15-runs to register a clinical victory in their recently concluded pool stage fixture of the Tata IPL 2023. With this victory, Delhi Capitals come to the second-last position in the standings but successfully eliminated Punjab Kings out of the championship.
Winning the toss at the iconic HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala, Punjab Kings skipper Shikhar Dhawan made an unfortunate decision to bowl first. Batting first, Delhi Capitals were absolutely convincing in their batting approach as they amassed 213/2 runs in their first innings of 20 overs.
Delhi Capitals were off to an astounding start after opening batsman David Warner (46) and Prithvi Shaw (54) powered a stunning match-winning stand of 94 runs for the first wicket. Furthermore, Shaw continued to capitalize on his innings and built another resilient 54-run stand alongside Rilee Rossouw.
Rilee Rossouw was clinical and contemplating in his batting approach as he anchored a flamboyant 82-run knock. Alongside Phil Salt (26), Rossouw stitched a crucial unbeaten stand of 65 runs for the third wicket. For Punjab Kings, Sam Curran (2/36) starred in the bowling attack with a fascinating spell and ended up as the only wicket-taking bowler.
DC Vs PBKS: Punjab Kings couldn’t get going in front of Delhi’s fierce bowling attack
Chasing a challenging and mammoth target of 214 runs, Punjab Kings was off to a nightmare start after losing their skipper Shikhar Dhawan for a golden duck. Prabhsimran Singh (22) and Atharva Taide then came to the rescue and built a vital 50-run stand for the second wicket.
Atharva Taida (55) kept on solidifying his innings and powered another 78-run stand alongside Punjab Kings savior Liam Livingstone who played a pivotal knock of 94 runs. However, Livingstone did not receive adequate support from the other end as wickets continued to tumble at regular intervals which resulted in Punjab losing the command over the game.
As a result, Punjab Kings was restricted to 198/8 runs total by the end of their second innings. For Delhi Capitals, Ishant Sharma (2/36) and Anrich Nortje (2/36) led the bowling attack whereas Khaleel Ahmed and Axar Patel chipped in a wicket apiece.
