CSK vs DC: The defiant Chennai Super Kings recorded their biggest victory in IPL 2023 by 77 runs against Delhi Capitals in their final pool stage fixture of the ongoing edition of the championship. With this victory, Chennai Super Kings retained their second position in the standings and have ensured their qualification to the Playoffs for the 12th time in the history of IPL. Delhi Capitals, unfortunately, finished in the second-last position in the standings.
Winning the toss at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, Chennai Super Kings skipper M.S Dhoni made an exemplary decision to bat first. Batting first, Chennai were off to a commanding start and put on a magnificent performance as they posted a gigantic 223/3 runs total in their first innings of 20 overs.
Chennai Super Kings was off to a stellar and stupendous start as opening batsman Devon Conway (87) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (79) powered a flamboyant match-winning partnership of 141 runs for the first wicket. Shivam Dube (22) came in next and starred in a solid cameo as he stitched another crucial 54-run partnership alongside Ruturaj Gaikwad.
In the end, a scintillating cameo from Ravindra Jadeja (20) helped the Super Kings to breach the 220-run mark. For Delhi Capitals, Anrich Nortje (1/43), Chetan Sakariya (1/36), and Khaleel Ahmed (1/45) chipped in a wicket apiece but were expensive in their spell.
DC vs CSK: Warner’s heroics went in vain as Delhi lost the fixture by 77 Runs
Chasing a mammoth target of 224-runs, Delhi Capitals were off to a sluggish and disappointing start as they lost frontline batsmen Prithvi Shaw (5), Phil Salt (3), and Rilee Rossouw early on in the innings without making any noteworthy contribution. As a result, Delhi struggled at 25/3 towards the end of the power play.
Skipper David Warner then came to the rescue and anchored a crucial 49-run stand alongside Yash Dhull (13). Warner (86) stood strong at one end but did not receive adequate support at the other end as wickets continued to tumble at regular intervals. As a result, Delhi was restricted to 146/9 runs total by the end of their 20 overs and lost the match by a whopping 77 runs.
For Chennai Super Kings, Deepak Chahar (3/22) starred in the bowling attack with a phenomenal bowling spell and he received marvelous support from the Sri Lankan duo of Maheesh Theekshana (2/23) and Matheesha Pathirana (2/22). Tushar Deshpande and Ravindra Jadeja claimed a wicket apiece. Jadeja gave away 50 runs and was expensive in his spell.
