CSK vs DC: The surging Chennai Super Kings powered yet another splendid victory over the struggling Delhi Capitals side. With this victory, Chennai solidified their playoff berth and climbed to the second position whereas Delhi Capitals are on the verge of elimination at the last position in the standings. Winning the toss at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk, Chennai Super Kings skipper M.S Dhoni made an exemplary decision to bat first. Batting first, Chennai posted a decent total of 167/8 runs in their first innings of 20 overs.
Chennai Super Kings was off to a sluggish start as opening batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad (24) and Devon Conway (10) added 32 runs for the first wicket. Rahane (21) was then looking good but lost his wicket off to a stupendous catch by Lalit Yadav. Further in the innings, Dube (25) and Rayudu (23) stabilized Chennai’s batting attack as wickets continued to tumble at regular intervals.
In the end, the heroics of Dhoni (20) and Jadeja (21) took Chennai near the 170-run mark as the duo powered a commanding match-winning partnership of 38 runs for the seventh wicket. For Delhi Capitals, Mitchell Marsh (3/18) and Axar Patel (2/27) starred in the bowling attack whereas Khaleel, Kuldeep, and Lalit chipped in a wicket apiece.
Delhi Capitals succumbed in front of CSK’s fiery bowling attack
Chasing a challenging total of 168 runs, Delhi Capitals was off to a nightmare start after losing skipper David Warner on a duck. Philip Salt (17) and Manish Pandey (27) came to the rescue and built a solid 59-run stand for the fourth wicket. Chennai succeeded in breaking the capitalizing partnership by bringing in Sri Lankan pacer Pathirana.
Delhi kept on losing wickets at regular intervals as no batsman apart from Axar (21) managed to play an impactful knock. As a result, Delhi Capitals was restricted to 140/8 and lost the match by 27 runs. For Chennai Super Kings, Matheesha Pathirana (3/37) led the bowling attack and was handsomely supported by Deepak Chahar (2/28). Ace all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja grabbed a wicket apiece.
