Pat Cummins says every one including his team Kolkatta Knight Riders, still hopes that the 13th edition of the T20 event goes ahead later this year after the situation gets improved.
The Australian player, however, backed his statement by saying that the priority for the world is now to minimize the risk of COVID-19 Pandemic. The IPL league was scheduled to commence from March 29 in Mumbai but got postponed to April 15th due to the worsening of the COVID-19 Pandemic which has taken the lives of almost 53,000 people worldwide.
‘Everyone is ready and wants that the IPL go ahead later in this year but the priority is to minimize the risk of it spreading”, Pat Cummins said.
India is under a 21-days nationwide lockdown until April 14th, which has resulted in the further postponement of the cash-rich event.
The 26-year-old Australian cricketer has been in constant contact with the Kolkata Knight Riders team who bought the player in a whopping Rs 15.5 crore last December at the auction, as everyone waits for the league’s fate.
“As I spoke to the officials they were still really confident and hopeful that the IPL be on the stage”, he said.
Due to COVID-19 Australia was forced to cancel their cricket series against New Zealand after one match and their tour to Bangladesh in June also looks uncertain at present.
“This year’s going to be very difficult for everyone to what we have hoped. Unless things improve, I can’t hope that tournaments can happen anywhere in the world”. The deadly Coronavirus has infected a million people worldwide. Australia has reported more than 5000 cases including 26 deaths.
Pat Cummins supported his captain saying players were ready to ‘take some of that pain’.
