England’s poor run in the ongoing Women’s World Cup continues as they have lost all the three matches so far in the marquee event, but their star left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone made positive gains from their recent outings in the World Cup. Sophie Ecclestone overtook Jess Jonassen to become the No.1 bowler in the ICC Women’s ODI Rankings list for bowlers. Ecclestone who is also the No.1 bowler in the T20I Rankings took three for 20 in their fixture against West Indies & followed it up with an impressive 1 for 23 against South Africa to achieve her career-best top spot in the bowlers chart.
Another cricketer who made massive gains in the latest Women’s ODI Rankings update was South Africa’s, Marizanne Kapp. She returned with figures of 5 for 45 followed by a 42 ball 32 in their fixture against England to guide the Proteas Women to a stunning win. As a result, she has jumped four spots to No. 4 on the bowling charts, while also retaining her No. 3 spot in the all-rounders’ rankings list.
West Indies Hayley Matthews is another cricketer who moved up in the latest ODI Rankings list for all-rounders. She is now at No. 2, her 45 and 2 for 40 against England and 43 and 1 for 65 against India helping her gain two spots. Matthews is still 87 points behind Ellyse Perry, who tops the all-rounders’ Rankings list. Ellyse Perry tops the list by scoring 68 & scalping 1 for 18 in Australia’s 141 run win over New Zealand. While Ashleigh Gardner’s unbeaten 48 & 2-15 helped her to move up by two spots to number seven position in the all-rounder’s rankings list.
Among batters Rankings list, New Zealand’s Amy Satterthwaite & South Africa’s Laura Wolvardt are the big gainers. Satterthwaite scored 75 against India and 44 against Australia which helped her to move up by five spots at No 3 position in the ODI Rankings for batters. At 717 rating points, she is just eight behind No. 2 Tammy Beaumont and 14 behind No. 1 Alyssa Healy. On the other hand, Wolvaardt’s 75 & 77 against Paksiatn helped her to move up into the top ten list. She currently occupies the No 5 spot in the ICC Women’s Rankings for batters.
