ICC on Wednesday released Test Rankings Update & there comes good news for India’s Test Specialist, R Ashwin who rose up to the No 1 spot in the latest update. The upsurge in his Rank happened due to his outstanding performance in the second Test of the BGT 2023 Tests against Australia which India won without shedding a sweat. Ashwin starred with teh ball in the Delhi test by returning with figures of six wickets. Ashwin has replaced Anderson to grab the No 1 Spot in the ICC Test Rankings for bowlers. Ashwin could further strengthen his position by performing well in the remaining two Tests of BGT 2023.
England’s stunning bowler James Anderson replaced Pat Cummins as the No 1 bowler on February 22 after scalping seven wickets in the first Test against New Zealand. At the age of 40, Anderson was the oldest top-ranked bowler since Aussies Clarrie Grimmett in 1936. But Anderson couldn’t continue his top spot as he scalped just three wickets in the second Test against New Zealand, losing his place to Ashwin.
Ravindra Jadeja continues to acquire the top spot in ICC Test Rankings for All-Rounders
On the other hand, Jasprit Bumrah & Shaheen Shah Afridi too moved up by one spot to acquire fourth & fifth positions in the Test Rankings Update. Though the duo are out of action in Test format since July, Robinson moving down by two spots to the No 6 position has helped the duo to fourth & fifth positions in the Rankings Update.
On the other hand in the Test All-rounder’s rankings update, Ravindra Jadeja continues to top the charts with Ravichandran Ashwin acquiring the second spot. While in the bowlers rankings update left-arm spinning all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has moved up to the eighth spot due to his player of the match performance by scalping 10 wickets & 26 runs in the Delhi test against Australia.
England’s swashbuckling batter Joe Root has moved up to the eighth spot in the all-rounders rankings while acquiring the third spot in the batters rankings after amassing an unbeaten 153 runs knock & 95 in the Wellington Test held last week. Smith & Labuschagne are acquiring first & second rankings among Test batters. Harry Brook has played six Tests & has moved up to the 16th spot among batters equalling Virat Kohli. Brook has scored 809 runs in ten innings at a stunning strike rate of 98.77
